2011-12 Grant Recipient:

Sustainable Energy Teaching and Innovation Lab (SETIL)

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering

Grant received: $12,500

The Sustainable Energy Teaching Initiatives Teaching Laboratory (SETIL) is an expansion of the Maryland Educational Solar Array (MESA) project into the area of wind based power generation.  The overall concept of the facility is to provide students with hands on experience in the design and use of alternative energy generation and utilization.  Currently two cross disciplinary courses are being developed with faculty from several departments and experiments are being designed to teach how maximize efficiency, estimate power consumption and predict performance of different power systems.  The grant will be used to add two vertical axis wind turbines to the lab.
