Feature GO Reps

Leahkim Gannett, Michelle Smith Performing Arts Library

Leahkim Gannett became her office GO Rep in July after attending a lunch-hour training session. Since then, she has implemented the program in her office and became the first Bronze-certified office on campus.

Gannett says that the staff at the Michelle Smith Performing Arts Library have a long history of environmental conscientiousness, so volunteering to be a part of the Green Office Program was a no-brainer. "The Bronze level offers a nice range of free options and does not intrude on office operations - though some items may require a change in human behavior. However, the Office of Sustainability has an excellent tool kit for GO Reps to use for reaching out to co-workers and navigating the shift in office culture that may be needed to achieve certification," says Gannett.

The Performing Arts Library has discovered many benefits of participating in this program. Gannett says what she appreciate most about the Green Office Program is that it gives University employees the opportunity to contribute to the campus' green efforts at the micro-level. "I also see potential for the GO Program to serve as a model for offices looking to cut back on expenditures. The financial crunch has hit academic support departments hard, and I know of several offices on campus that are looking for ways to save costs. The GO Program could be a blueprint," says Gannett.

Congratulations on becoming our first Bronze-certified office!
