How would you define environmental sustainability?
Sustainability is the ability to meet the needs of the current generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. The environment is the primary but not the only consideration within sustainability; it is important to also consider human welfare. Therefore, a sustainable society is one that protects natural resources while ensuring social justice and economic wellbeing for all.
What are the steps the campus has to take in order to reach sustainability standards?
The campus has taken many steps to become a more sustainable community, which are discussed in the 2010 Campus Sustainability Report, the 2008 Campus Sustainability Report, and the 2007 Campus Sustainability Report. We are currently developing sustainability metrics that we will use to track the campus's progress on reducing environmental impacts, enhancing social wellbeing, and continuing economic development.
